What is Social Bookmarking?
There are many websites on the Internet where you can "bookmark" your content by submitting it to them. These are called "Bookmarking Sites" that are very useful for getting traffic to your content. According to the definition in the Wikipedia, a "Social bookmarking is a method for Internet users to share, organise, . search, and manage bookmarks of web resources. Unlike file sharing, the resources themselves aren't shared, merely bookmarks that reference them."
In other words, a social bookmark is. one that contains a link to a web page that people want to share with others or remember for themselves. Therefore, these sites help you to collect such links and resources that can be shared or organised in the manner you want and under different categories to suit your needs. You can also choose to make them either open to the public or make them private for your own references. A site called Delicious, which was founded in 2003, was responsible for coining the term "Social Bookmarking". This site also pioneered the "tagging system" that has been adopted by many websites today and is an important way to organize data that can be easily searched or found again.

How To Add A Bookmark
Adding a bookmark is very easy. To do so, open the page of the post that you want to bookmark. See that you are not on the "Home Page" of your Blog, which displays many posts. Clicking on the title of your post will take you to the individual page that it is posted on. Each and every post is given a unique URL on your Blog in order to archive it. The link to your post will appear like this: http://kanwarpriya.blogspot.com/2009/08/tips-on-how-to- make-money-on-xomba.html. Now go to the bottom of the post and click on the Bookmark button. The list of bookmarking site appears in a drop down box. Select one of them (e.g. Delicious) and click on it.
A new window opens with your Title and URL already featuring in the appropriate places. In the empty box in front of "Notes" write down a brief summary of what you are submitting. It can also be a few lines from the opening paragraph of your post. Just make sure that the main keywords should figure in the summary.
Now in the box marked "Tags" enter the important keywords that may be used to search this post or under which it can be field. These can be the same as the labels or keywords you used while creating the post.
Click on "Save" and you are done. You will now land back on your post page. Repeat this step for any and all other places that you want to bookmark your article on:
As you can see in the figure there is an option provided to mark the bookmark as private by checking the checkbox in front of "Mark as Private". Do this only if you do NOT want to make your bookmarks available to the public for some reason. Otherwise leave it unchecked.
The Send box allows you to send the bookmark to friends and family via emails. The Email addresses of people you want to send the bookmark, too can be entered in the box with spaces separating each one.
Most bookmarking sites are now also offering the facility to integrate your bookmarks with Facebook and Twitter also, so that you don't have to bother to post them separately.
There are many more new and exciting features being made available on these bookmarking sites to keep updated with the rather fast paced Internet technology each and every day. So, don't be surprised to find things changed in a few days or months time. You can explore each and every site at your own leisure and see what could benefit you more. Most sites are now also integrating the "analytics" feature so that you can track your links to see how many clicks were generated each day.
