After arriving at Shiridi village, the house to which Sai Baba went first of all for begging belonged to Bayaja Bai. Bayaja Bai was a kind-hearted and tolerant philanthropist. Seeing Sai Baba at her door, her heart was filled with the tender affection. She went inside to fetch the food for Sai Baba. But, by the time she returned with food, Sai Baba had already departed from there. Without any loss of time, she set out in search of Sai Baba lest he should remain hungry.
In the end, she found Sai Baba. He was sitting under a tree, totally lost in his meditation. Bayaja Bai served Sai most affectionately. Sai too bowed his head in front of the motherly love of Bayaja Bai and began to call her as his mother. He gave her more respect than he gave to his real mother and he considered her son, Tatya Kote, just like his real brother.
After that, Bayaja Bai dedicated her entire life in the service of Sai Baba. The daily jobs of cleaning of the mosque and the feeding of all the devotees, were done under the supervision of Bayaja Bai. On the occasion of Bayaja Bai's death, Sai Baba took a solemn oath to look after Tatya Kote forever. In order to fulfill his word of honour, given to Bayaja Bai, Sai Baba sacrificed his entire life.
