THE VISION OF GOD OF KHANDOBA

THE VISION OF GOD OF KHANDOBA

Sai Baba accorded equal treatment to the people of different castes, creeds, colours and countries. His doors were open to one and all. He exhorted every one to rise above his caste or creed. Consequently, Sai Baba's sermons created a social awakening and harmonious feelings among the people.

Once, all the villagers were invited to attend the ceremonial worship of God Khandoba. Out of deep devotion to God Khandoba, a few scheduled caste villagers also entered the temple. But the people of the upper castes despised them and turned them away from the temple.

The humiliated scheduled caste people went into Sai Baba's shelter. Sai Baba told them that the upper caste people, who had shown their absolute claim over God Khandoba, were living in a fool's paradise. He said, "It is not caste, but the passions of pride and prejudice which make a person a scheduled caste person. Their narrow thoughts defile the whole system. We should hold only one opinion that God is accessible to all alike." Sai Baba asked the 'Harijans' to bring the items of oblation. Sai Baba meditated deeply and God Khandoba appeared then and there. People shouted slogans to glorify God Khandoba.

The next day, the upper-class people who had disgraced the 'Harijans' began to repent. They fell at Sai Baba's feet and began to offer their apology to Sai Baba. Sai Baba forgave them.
